A Virago

I am a virago! (See the video below for more information.) I am also a history professor at a small public university.

AND I have a memoir and sci fi substack called Mavis Strife.

This newsletter will be part of the classes I teach on the history of U.S. women and gender. You will also find a second newsletter, Atlantic Entanglements, for classes on the sixteenth-century Atlantic world, and on the history of magic. I plan to write weekly, quoting from course assignments, linked and shared here when possible, and to provoke discussions with students who will also be exploring substack on topics related to their coursework.

Through discussions of course materials, students build critical thinking and writing skills that prepare them to engage in their social worlds in meaningful ways.

Social media platforms like Substack are spaces they must learn to navigate effectively.

I hope that students will also have opportunities to engage with members of the substack community who want to subscribe and join this constructive, respectful, and supportive conversation.

So! Are you a virago?

The Virago Channel is a reader-supported publication. With a free subscription, you will receive all new posts. To support my work, consider becoming a paid subscriber.
